Accessibility

The European Care Group website aims to be accessible to everyone, with this is mind we have included step by step guides to changing backgrounds and fonts in your web browser.

If you cannot find information about your particular browser or version of your browser please consult your browser help menu or visit the BBC website for information on specific browsers/changing your computer settings.

Internet Explorer - version 8 and above

To change the background colour of your browser in Internet Explorer follow these steps:

  1. Select the ‘Tools’ option from your toolbar
  2. Choose ‘Internet options’ from the menu
  3. Click the ‘Accessibility’ button in the bottom corner of the window (if you cannot see the ‘Accessibility’ button make sure you are on the ‘General’ tab)
  4. Once you have the ‘Accessibility’ menu open, check the tick box next to ‘ignore colours specified on webpages’, click OK
  5. This will show you the colours automatically determined by Windows, you can either stick with these or follow points 1 and 2 again, this time selecting ‘Colours’
  6. Uncheck the tick box entitled ‘use window colours’
  7. Select the grey box entitled ‘text’ and then your preferred colour to set the text colour
  8. Select the grey box entitled ‘background’ and then your preferred colour to set the background colour

To change the fonts used in your browser in Internet Explorer follow these steps:

  1. Select the ‘Tools’ option from your toolbar
  2. Choose ‘Internet options’ from the menu
  3. Click the ‘Accessibility’ button in the bottom corner of the window (if you cannot see the ‘Accessibility’ button make sure you are on the ‘General’ tab)
  4. Check ‘ignore font styles specified on webpages’, and/or ‘ignore font sizes specified on webpages’
  5. Set your preferred fonts using the menu

Firefox

To change the background colour of your browser in Firefox follow these steps:

  1. Select the Firefox menu from the top left hand corner
  2. Choose ‘Options’ from the menu
  3. Select the ‘Content’ tab from the new window
  4. Click the button called ‘Colours’
  5. From the menu choose your text and background colours
  6. Unselect ‘Allow pages to choose their own colours instead of my selections’ and ‘use system colours’

Apple Safari

To change the text used in Safari follow these steps:

  1. Select the Apple symbol from the left hand corner
  2. Select ‘System preferences’ from the menu
  3. Choose the ‘Universal access’ option from the bottom right hand corner of the menu
  4. Select the options that meet your requirements from the menu

Chrome

To change the fonts used in Chrome:

  1. Select the spanner icon from the top right hand corner
  2. Choose ‘Options’ from the menu
  3. Choose ‘Under the bonnet’ from the left hand menu
  4. In the ‘web content’ section you can set the size, zoom or click on customise fonts to change font style
