European Care Dementia Development services reaffirms its commitment to 'best practice' standards.

Wed 06 2009

A little over three years ago European Care Group adopted the 'Quality dementia care in care homes' person centred standards which resulted from a collaboration between the Alzheimer's society and the royal college of nursing as there benchmark for best practice across the group

Now with the release of the Governments national strategy for dementia 'living well with dementia' the group has taken the opportunity to reaffirm these standards throughout its current portfolio of over 90 care homes.

However EC Group have gone further than just reaffirming the commitment to good practice and have created a program of both self and external assessments to ensure day to day practice reflects not only the attainment of the 26 standards but encompasses the essence of a person centred culture.

Head of Dementia Development Paul Smith said 'through our research, development and partnerships it had become clear that models and standards are important as they provide clear directions for travel, we also know however that following models and rules blindly leads often to dead ends and therefore we have adopted and adapted the standards and created a method to make these 'best practice' goals real for our staff, make them relevant for those receiving our care and make them measureable as a means of guiding constant improvements and enabling life long learning'

Coupling these European Care best practice standards with the excellence in dementia care home development documentation systems, the groups innovative adaption of VIPS and the progressive three levels of training beginning with the basic program for all staff the Alzheimer's society's 'Yesterday, today and tomorrow' it is felt the group is making significant strides in its goals to become a demonstrable leader in the industry for the provision of excellence in dementia care.

European Care Group intends shortly to add a basic guide to dementia care pamphlet which will be free to anyone enquiring about our care services.
